Two Months Old

Sweet Miriam is already two months old, how time flies! It flies so fast that I totally forgot to even do a one month post. Here's a few highlights of baby girl's two months of life so far!

~She has discovered her fingers and looooves to suck on them. Ironically she prefers the thumb and pointer finger just like Mason used to. Must be genetic!

~She coos and talks like crazy lately. She smiles at just about anything and especially her big brother. A couple of days ago she woke up from her nap just cooing instead of fussing. I love that milestone! It's so fun to listen to her on the monitor chat with herself.

~She hates tummy time of course, all babies do, right? But her neck has always been super strong so I'm not too worried about torturing her with it.

~She weighs 12 pounds 7 ounces now, in the 80th percentile. Little chunk! She's also wearing 3 month clothes . All her cute little newborn outfits were very short lived.

~She can face forward in the Baby Bjorn, and she likes it way better. She loved the Moby when she was tiny, but now she's much happier facing the world!

~She loves to be sung to, especially during bath time. It always calms her right down. Not that she's easy to console. She is one of the sweetest most content babies.

~She has a dairy sensitivity just like her big brother, and maybe a few other things that we're working on. But doing an elimination diet has helped a ton and she continiues to be happy and healthy!

And now the part you're all here for anyway, pictures! =)

She loves her great aunt Jan

 At her one month appointment

My favorite part about dressing a girl--all the ruffly baby bum leggings!
Mason used to nurse with his arm over his face exactly like this.
Looks like she's busting a dance move.
This is one of the adorable outfits from her great Aunt Kelly
Lots of love from brother Mason on a regular basis.
 Sweetest little smile.

Tummy time is better with friends!

Sometimes Mom is too busy to put her down for a proper nap, and she just has to sleep on the go!
A couple of days ago when they both woke up at 6:15--yikes!! They regretted it about 30 minutes later when they both looked like this...
Loving this point of view. She's so grown up!

How to do the ridiculous hair bun

I had a couple requests from Instagram about doing a how to for this outrageous hair bun in these pictures.

I can't take credit for this bun in any way, a million girls are way trendier than me and have been doing it for ages. And my sister is the one who taught me how to do it when she was here visiting a few weeks ago. So here's a really probably not great tutorial on how to achieve this. It's actually super easy, so there's not much to show! And don't mind the gross pictures of me sans make up. I did this before the babies woke up for the day.

You will need:
A brush
A hair elastic
4-6 bobby pins
Dry shampoo
Really dirty hair (If you want, I do this bun on days 6-9 of not washing)

STEP 1
Spray the heck out of your hair with dry shampoo. It helps give it volume and texture, which will help your hair hold the shape of the bun and give it a fuller look.
This is day 6 hair so I already have a load of dry shampoo in it.
STEP 2
Make the highest ponytail you can imagine. Channel the 80's as much as possible, and make it higher than you think.

This picture was not high enough, I re-did it even higher but forgot to picture it. Basically put it right on the crown of your head.

STEP 3
Back comb the ponytail close to the base to poof up the volume, not too much though. This isn't Utah in the early 2000's.

STEP 4
Let the ponytail fall open from the center, you should look like Cousin It. From Addams Family. Does anyone still get that reference? I'm old.

STEP 5
Wrap large chunks of the ponytail at a time around the ponytail base and tuck the ends, pinning with bobby pins underneath and toward the center of your bun. You shouldn't need more than 4-6 bobby pins to do this. You can wrap the pieces tighter if you want a smaller bun. I like the huge bun.

I try to do a lot of the pinning toward the back, but try to hide the pins still so that the bun looks symmetrical all the way around.

STEP 6
Tuck any sticky outty pieces in. I always end up with some pieces doing this....

Usually I can just tuck them into the bun and they will stay down without extra pinning. But you can use a pin if you need to to control the flyaways.

And voila! A ridiculously giant bun right on top of your head! It's so easy and fast and looks more polished than a ponytail. It's a must for mommy life. And if you're like me and hate washing your hair, the bun can extend the life of your hair by a couple of days.

Ready for the Navy

It's been horrendously rainy here for like a week with no end in sight. We've been cooped up and I'm running out of ideas to occupy sir Mason indoors. Then I got a package from urban outfitters with a sheet of tattoos. So bring on the rain, weatherman!

Last week was just one of those weeks. I was sick, and then Miriam was sick. We had several appointments we had to go to. Grandma and Grandpa came down for the day on Tuesday to babysit, and Mason went to our friend Maren's house on Thursday while I went with Miriam to the birth center all the way in Chapel Hill. Thankfully it's the last time we'll have to make that drive for a long time. We were all pretty beat. By Thursday afternoon we all needed to slow down and take a deep breath. We piled all the blankets and pillows on the floor and watched The Fox and the Hound. We don't watch a lot of TV, or at least we try not to. But I love the classic Disney movies. He loved this one and kept saying "awww baby fox". A good end to a busy week.

And this will be great pictoral evidence that he loves his sister when they are pestering each other in a few years.

Miss Miriam and I hanging out before Mason woke up. They both slept like champs! A tender mercy for a sick mommy.

Instagram

I'm way better at keeping up with Instagram than I am with the blog. If you are on Instagram, come find me! (@shannanagram) If not, I've decided that each time I post to Insta, I'll just take a second and post it here too. To at least keep some pictures up here.
So here's our Sunday pictures. Mason wouldn't sit still long enough for a picture before he got covered in peanut butter during lunch. We'll try again next week.
Aaaaand I can't figure out how to rotate the pictures in my Blogger app, so some will be sideways until I figure that out....Enjoy! =)
